What this tool does
This tool checks if a Value Added Tax (VAT) number is active and valid. It uses the official European Union database (VIES) to verify business and individual tax registrations in Europe. You must provide the country code and the VAT number to get a result.
Important: The tool checks an EU VAT number against the official EU registry and returns the country code and whether the number is active, plus the registered company name or address when the registry provides them.
Common uses

When it fails
- If the external service is temporarily unavailable, the tool says 'service-unavailable' and is not charged
- If the country is not part of the EU VAT scheme, the tool says 'unsupported-country' and is not charged
